Long car trips with children can be horrible. They can also be fun if you spend some time planning activities to keep the kids amused. I find that if my kids are bored, they are more likely to start fights amongst themselves or complain during the car ride.
There are many games and activities that you can play in the car in order to keep your children amused. Because my children range in age from almost 2 up to 15 years and have learning disabilities, we need to keep our games simple. I’ve found that the following games work the best for our family because of those restrictions. More →

Life changes when you have kids. Gone are the days when you and your college room mates would just hop in the car on the spur of the moment and take off on a grand road trip with just a few essentials like a change of clothes, and some cool sunglasses.
Having kids means that you actually need to plan things like road trips. It also means that you need to pack a little bit more than just the essentials when you do decide to take to the open road. However, it is possible to bring too much stuff. I’ve done this before and it is just as aggravating as not bringing enough stuff.

When I lived north of the Mason Dixon line, the imaginary line that divides the Southern and Northern USA, my favorite season was Fall. I loved to watch the leaves change colors and I enjoyed the cooler days and nights.
I now live on the southern portion of coastal Virginia and I’ve found that the leaves really don’t change color here. They turn a sort of orangish-brown sometime in late October and then just give up the ghost and fall off the tree in January. That’s pretty much it.
